- Postcard (color, linen textured, divided back, 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches) titled: Sunset on the Frederica River, near Fort Fredrick, St. Simons Island, GA. - Text on reverse: Sunset on Frederica River St. Simons Island, Georgia. In 1978, near the spot, the British under Oglethorpe, built Fort Frederica, England’s southernmost outpost against the Spaniards. Live oak timbers cut from St. Simons in 1794, were loaded at the Gascoigne Bluff on Frederica River and shipped north for building the U. S. Frigate Constitution and other first vessels of the American Navy. Card number 4B-H522.
