Description:
Dr. Frank R. Reade, Third President, 1934-1946. Dr. Reade came in 1934 as an "executive dean-elect" and assumed the presidency formally upon Dr. Pound's death. Reade, from Abington, Virginia, attended the University of Virginia. He had been a teacher, an editorial writer at the Atlanta Constitution, a professor, and an administrator at Georgia Tech. Reade "brought to the college the outlook and attitudes of a typical conservative Episcopalian, and Virginia gentleman, plus a keen sense of humor, a love of sports, and an outgoing personality which invited the confidence of the student and faculty alike," according to student journalists of the day.
