- Georgia Architectural and Historic Properties Survey of Quitman [375] 202 W. Screven, Valdosta, Ga. December 1980. Two story rectangular plan with flat roof and brick siding. Sash windows with 6/6 lights. Transom over door. 2nd story veranda. Good condition. Date of Construction: c. 1880. One of the oldest buildings in Quitman - the Brooks Co. Library was housed in the second floor and the Quitman Free Press was on the first floor. Cost $1,000 dollars to build. Includes hand hewn timbers and bricks fired in local kilns. Mrs. A. J. Rountree was president of the library association until 1920. Significant architecturally. Very unusual type of architecture for this area. Significant as part of a potential National Register historic district, along Screven St., and north and south of it, including the commercial area.
