- James Randolph Evans (1958 - ) is a lawyer who heads up several companies owned by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and is general counsel for the Georgia Republican Party. He has represented former House Speaker Dennis Hastert and former U.S. Sen. Bob Barr. He resides in Atlanta.; Interviewed by Dr. Mel Steely on July 18, 2008 at an unknown location.; Dr. Steely mentions the last time Evans had been interviewed, noting they had stopped spoke of the ethics allegations that were directed at Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich. Evans begins by discussing what had happened after Gingrich had stepped down, speaking about the process of finding a new Republican Speaker of the House, eventually coming to Denny Hastert. After taking office, Hastert asks Evans to continue in the same capacity as council that he had with Gingrich. Evans then discusses the experience he had acquired with publishing books for Gingrich and how this became a specialty of his, going on to work with Zell Miller. He then speaks of the success that Miller's book ultimately found. The discussion returns to Gingrich; Evans speaks of his involvement with Gingrich's efforts to start a new consulting enterprise and Gingrich's divorce from his former wife. The 2000 Presidential Election is the next topic of conversation and Evans discusses the outstanding election results, Florida, and the role of the Speaker of the House.
