- Marcus Collins was born in Albany, Georgia on January 25, 1927. He entered politics in 1961 and served eighteen years in the Georgia House of Representatives. Collins worked at the Revenue Commission until 1996 when he was appointed to the Tobacco Company Development Board as the executive director.; Interviewed by Mel Steely on March 18, 2003 at Collins's office.; This interview is primarily of Collins talking about his friendship with Speaker of the House Tom Murphy. Marcus Collins and Tom Murphy met in 1962 during that year's legislative session. Collins was the speaker's aide and good friend for many years. The beginning of the interview is a brief statement of Collins's early life and how he came to be involved in Georgia politics. This interview consists of one full tape and one side of a second tape.
