CARROLLTON, GEORGIA 30117

FROM THE OFFICE OF p/i <^^% \p| 834-4411

THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL LV ^ itP" / I EXT. 526

TO THE CLASS OF 1978:

I would like to extend to each of you my welcome to West Georgia College. I hope you will soon
feel that this is your College. The administration, faculty, and facilities are important in providing
structure for the College, but it is you, the student that give it life and substance. It will be your in-
terest in the College, in all phases of college life, and the efforts you put forth to develop a better en-
vironment for yourselves and for your fellow students that will determine the destiny of this College.

You come to this College at a time when cries for student rights and student power are being
heard all over the country. The College is a place to question, to criticize, to become involved, and to
search for meaning. However, it should not be used as a sanctuary for expressing views that would
not be expressed outside of the institution.

When expressing your views on this campus there is a vehicle available to you THE
STUDENT GOVERNMENT. However, a student government is possible only if you, the student,
provide support and creative ideas. The primary function of a student government is to represent the
student and to help the student create a self-fulfilling environment and the success depends on you.
Your Student Government Association will present your opinions and views to the administration,
faculty, the local citizen, and the legislature.

Your education at WGC is not restricted to the classroom. It is up to each of you to put forth the
effort to become totally involved in this college environment and to realize that failure to do so only
limits your experiences because this total involvement will have real meaning in your socio-political
life after graduation.

Congratulations on your admission to WGC. On behalf of the entire Student Government
Association, I want to wish you a happy, enjoyable and productive four years at WGC. Take advan-
tage of this tremendous opportunity to get a college education and become involved in your College.

Respectfully yours,

Lamar Chambers, President
Student Government Association
