The purpose of any annual is to bring back memories
of by gone days. If in future days this CHIEFTAIN
brings back fond memories of days at West Georgia, the
publisher's efforts and those of the Chieftain Staff will
not have been in vain.

her genuine interest
in the students and
their problems, and
for her readiness to
lend a helping hand,

111 a lip-ioaring good game, the Braves upset Gordon Military Academy at
the local field before a crowd of cheering fans. ,1. C. Hinlon went across
goallines for W.C.C/s first TD. The thrill of the season was "Tip" Goza s
Tntereeption and 80 yard dash, with Pitts taking the pigskin over. Hise
then made the final tally. Other plax.-rs ^ixdling defeat were Captain Bob
Garrett and Buddy Harrell.

The West Georgia Braves fell before the mighty G.M.C. Cadets at Milledge-
ville in the season's opener. The bright spot of the game for W.G.C. was
the 73 yard pass from Marold Pitts to Biirnell Payne resulting in the single
touchdown.

One of the outstanding games of the season was between the Braves and
St. Bernard Saints, although W.G.C. came out with lowest score. The thriller
was a fast and tough game. St. Bernard m.ade a safety early in the first
quarter. West Ga. scored in the fourth with Bernard doing likewise. Pitts,
Williams, Garrett, Hinton played a great game.

In the Homecoming tilt, the Braves fell before the strong Troy State eleven.
Beautiful team work was exhibited when W.G.C. scored in the second
quarter with Johnson going over.

The closing g

jame of the season was with the
powerful foe. South Georgia. Brown. WilHanis, Causey,
Goza and Mizell all had excellent performances.

Once again, the Braves were riddled with injuries
and fell before the powerful Chipola Indians at the
local stadium. Quarterback Jim Massey was bright
star of W.G.C. with Harold Lane playing a fine
game.

The Middle Georgia football team was completely
aware of the presence of welchmen on a certain night
in October and. although the final score favored the
opponent. W.G.C. played a superb game. Outstanding
W.G.C. players were Brown and Hammill, Davis,
Pitts and Causey.

iddle Ga. (25)

West Ga. College (13)

Due to injuries of several key players, the Braves
were downed by Marion Institute. "Pete" Causey
grabbed a Marion pass and sprinted to make a lone
TD. Other star of the night was "Goat" Gumming,
who led the attack.

As the Winter quarter rolled around, W.G.C. turned
the spotlight on the ever-popular sport, basketball. Again
W.G.C. had a good team with the regulars, Guy Hender-
son, and Bob Garrett returning. The other places on the
varsity are filled by "Bedo" Culbertson, Wales Gobbels,
and Harold Herring. A rough schedule of nineteen
games played, and a tournament date filled, told the
story of the "49" Braves.
