FAMOUS SOPRANO TO
SING HERE TONIGHT

Miss Eleanor Lee Brisen-
dine, famous operatic so-
prano of the Chicago opera
company, will be heard in
a concert tonight at the city
auditorium. She is well
known in musical circles
here, due to her well-re-
ceived program last season.

Miss Brisendine will sing
many request numbers of
popularity. Among these
will be "The Wise Man"
and "My Nemesis" from the
light opera "Nerts."

RENOWNED WRITER TO
SPEAK TO CIVITANS

Mr. Jack Smith, well
known sports writer for the
NEW YORK TIMES, is to
be the guest speaker at the
noon meeting of the Civitan
Club today. He is expected
also to come out to West
Georgia for the chapel hour.

MISS DORIS WEST AT
THE ROYAL TODAY

After many attempted
showings of her latest pic-
ture here, Doris West has
finally consented to make a
personal appearance with
the showing of her latest
offering "You Can Be Had."

JUDGE DAVID WALKER
SITS ON CASE HERE

With repeated assertions
of his guilt. Judge David
Walker, sentenced his life-
long friend, Samuel Edgar
Kelly, Jr., to a life imprison-
ment of wedded bliss. They
both refused to disclose the
name of the bride.

Mr. Kelly is well known
among political circles for
his radical, but very success-
ful bill supporting the wo-
man suffrage movement.

STEWART MARTIN DIES
AFTER BRAVE AT-
TEMPT TO SAVE
CHILD FROM DEATH

Mother Distraught

With many hearts in
sympathy with her in her
deep grief, Mrs. Stewart
Martin today wept silently
beside the tomb of her be-
loved husband, who met his
death in the fire which swept
New York's fashionable dis-
trict two days ago.

Mrs. E. L. Lawrence and
Mrs. K. Wilbanks, mother
and grandmother of the res-
cued child were with Mrs.
Martin.

Mayor Simonton is start-
ing a movement to collect
funds for a monument to
this great hero.

Before the funeral rites,
the body lay in state at the
parlors of Rowe and Cruse
where the remains were
viewed by thousands of ad-
miring people.
