This Society was organized in 1976 in Carrollton, Georgia, for the
purpose of preserving local records and evaluating and sharing such
records with persons who have an interest in genealogy. Membership
is open to all persons who are interested in genealogy in Carroll
County and surrounding areas, or persons living anywhere who have
roots in Carroll County or an interest in the founding fathers and
history of the County. This Society does not assume responsibility
for errors in fact or opinion which may appear in articles furnished
by its members. We will gladly correct any errors brought to our
attention.

Dear Members:
It is hard to believe that it is already time to be sending you
the third quarterly of this year. I hope the year is proving to
be -a productive one in your family research.
As always, I wish our more distant members could be with us in
Carroll County. At last month’s meeting Bob Davis, author of
Research in Georgia and The Georgia Black Book, presented an
informative program on the use and misuse of census records.
Our July 28 meeting will be our annual picnic, to be held this
year at the Morrow's home on Lake Carroll. On August 25 members
of the society will once again be sharing stories of the
migration of their ancestors.
The cemetery book is finally back from the printer. The books
are being prepared for mailing and should soon be on their way
to those who have ordered copies.
As can be expected in an undertaking as ambitious as the cemetery
book, several corrections and omissions have been reported. These
will be printed up and possibly inserted in an upcoming quarterly
for inclusion with the book. If you have noticed any omissions
or torrections that need to be made, please contact me. I am
keeping a listing of corrections and additions. Also, if you have
a copy of the cemetery book that has any printing errors, do not
hesitate to contact us. We will photocopy any missing pages and
send them to you. If you have a book that has major printing
problems, we will gladly replace your book. You will
be glad to know that we have checked approximately half the books
and have found relatively few printing mistakes.
I will close by wishing you increased knowledge, wisdom -- and
luck, of course — as you continue the quest for your ancestors.
Sincerely yours,
President

FROM SWEETWATER TO SPRING BANK - STORY OF A PIONEER:
REV. NELSON PORTERFIELD
By Jay D. Williams
385 Houze Way, Roswell, Ga 30075
No Cass County history would be complete without some mention of
one of its early pioneers who migrated from Georgia in I856 to settle in
what is now the Queen City/Bloomburg area and later the Spring Bank area
of Lafayette (now Miller) County, Arkansas.
He was Rev. Nelson PORTERFIELD, affectionately called "Brother
Nelse" during his 50 years of residency in Cass County and nearby
Southwest Arkansas. A pioneer farmer and Baptist preacher, Nelson
PORTERFIELD, from I856 until his death in 1906 at the age of 91, probably
influenced the Christian lives of more people in this area than any
single individual of his time.
One biographer, writing in 1891* estimated that "Brother Nelse"
had baptized more than 3*000 persons and performed more than 2,000
marriages in Cass and Lafayette/Miller Counties. He was a leader in
the organization and growth of numerous Baptist churches and in the
formation of several Baptist associations that thrive even today.
Nelson PORTERFIELD was born in Madison County, Georgia, about
1815. His parents, both born in Virginia, moved to Carroll County, Ga.
when Nelson was a young boy. That County was created in 1826 after the
Creek Indian cession and was part of Georgia's western frontier wilder¬
ness until Indian uprisings subsided and more and more settlers took up
land, much of it won during the 1827 and 1832 land lotteries. It is
thought that Nelson's parents were Christopher PORTERFIELD and Susannah
-- PORTERFIELD, and the family consisted of six sons and two
daughters 1
Nelson married Neaty Caroline DICKSON (or DIXON) in Carroll
County, Ga., November 4, I832« He is shown, in the 1840 census of
Carroll County with a wife and two daughters. Before 1850 the family
had moved from Carroll County to nearby Cobb County, near Powder Springs.
The 1850 census of Cobb Countjr, Ga., documents Nelson as head of house¬
hold, his wife Neaty; Elizabeth, 13? Frances, 11; James N. (Nelson), 7;
William W., 5* Eliza (Jane), 2; and Thomas B. V., 10 mos. old.
Nelson PORTERFIELD became a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church,
then located in Cobb County but now located in adjoining Paulding County,
Ga., on historic Sweetwater Creek, that meanders through Cobb, Paulding,
Douglas, and Carroll Counties.
Nelson was ordained May 9, 1851, and a month later was called to
become pastor of Sweetwater Baptist Church, a post he held until
October 1855* Church'minutes in a fascinating booklet published in
1972, "The 140 Years of Sweetwater Baptist.Church," show that in October
1855 Pastor Nelson PORTERFIELD and twelve other church members received
letters of dismissal from membership, giving no reason for such action,
but believed by this writer to be because Rev. PORTERFIELD and the other
twelve members had stated their intention to migrate to East Texas and
Southwest Arkansas. It is a matter of record that several other members
of Sweetwater Baptist Church migrated to Southwest Arkansas and East
Texas in the mid 1850's, thus making their own contributions to Cass
County's pioneer history.
A study of Sweetwater's history and membership rolls, and later
reviews of membership rolls of Macedonia Baptist Church, Bright Star,
Ark., and those of Salem Baptist Church near Bloomburg, clearly show an
interlocking relationship worthy of documentation:
Sweetwater Baptist Church was constituted on December 10, 1832,

In 1834 George RUSSELL and Thomas W. GARNER were chosen as the
first two deacons, and participating in the ordination service were
Elders James MAJORS, Henry HAYNES, and Bamibas PAIR; Johnson HAYNES,
William MAJORS, Barnabas ADAIR, and R. M. McMINN.
On May 13, 1837 a committee was established “for the purpose of
looking out a place to build a meeting house." The committee to consist
of five members and five neighbors, as follows:
The Members: T. W. GARNER, J. C. GARNER, D. B. BRASSIALE, Reubin
McCLUNG and Abner STARKE.
The Neighbors: L. B. HAWKINS, J. P. CLINTON, James STEWART,
J. HUMPHREY, and John CANADY (KENNEDY?).
Brother Elder Edward HAYNES was granted a petition June 10, I837,
to constitute a church on Craw Fish Creek in Carroll County. In November,
1837, Elder HAYNES was called to Sweetwater as pastor.
In 1840 Brother John C. GARNER introduced a resolution resulting
in dismissal from membership of Robert McMINN and his wife, Lavina;
Reubin McCLUNG; Sarah UMPHREY (HUMPHREY?); and Elizabeth DUDLEY. (The
latter is believed to be Nelson PORTERFIELD’S sister who married an
Anderson DUDLEY in Campbell County, Ga., March 3> 1821.)
When the church regrouped in 1843 it had ten members: William
HENDRICKS, Reubin McCLUNG, Derrel BRAZELL, William H. BROWN, Elizabeth
HENDRICKS, Mary BRAZELL, Mary McCLUNG, Irene BROWN, Sarah UMPHREY, and
Susanah BAKER.
In May 1845 the church called Derrel BRAZELL and William H. BROWN
as deacons. In 1850 Brother Derrel BRAZELL and nine other members were
granted dismissal letters for the purpose of constituting a church. In
January 1855 the church elected its first chorister, Brother Talley
NORTON. (He and his wife Caroline later became members'of Macedonia
Baptist Church near Bright Star, Ark.)
Unfortunately, we have found no concrete evidence of how, by what
means, or with whom, Nelson PORTERFIELD and his family made their way
from western Georgia to Cass County in late I855 or early I856. We do
know he sold his Cobb County farm before departing and settled on a farm
about two miles northwest of the present town of Bloomburgo It is
believed the PORTERFIELDS (Nelson and some of his brothers such as
Christopher, Joseph P. (Preston), Elijah, William W., and their families),
migrated westward by wagon train, accompanied by some of the families
who were former members of Sweetwater Baptist Church.
Sweetwater's Oct. 13, 1855, minutes show the following members
dismissed: Nelson PORTERFIELD and wife Neaty; Frances Ann (Frankey A.)
PORTERFIELD; F. B. (Frank or Franklin B.) GARNER and Elizabeth (PORTER¬
FIELD) GARNER; James C. BRAZELLE and wife Lucinda; E. M. (Eli M.)
COMPTON and wife Martha; John YARBER (YARBROUGH or YARBOROUGH?); William
BAKER; and John (a slave).
Two years later - Oct. 10, I85? - Sweetwater's minutes show
dismissal of the following members: D. B. (Derrel B.) BRAZZELL and wife
Mary; Mary WHITE;
MULONE (MALONE?);
wife Emmilene
McCLUNG.
Except for
Church membership
Elizabeth (PORTERFIELD) DUDLEY; T
David R. BROWN and wife Margaret;
Ann McCLUNG
ally
Alf:
NORTON; Burril
'ed W. BROWN and
Martha McCLUNG; Elizabeth McCLUNG; James
Burril MULONE, these names appear on Macedonia Baptist
rolls the following year. All four of the McCLUNGs
were received into Macedonia membership April 17* 1858» Then on May 15,
1858, Macedonia received as members D. B. BRAZELLE and wife Mary;
Chapell (probably James C.) BRAZELLE and wife Lucinda. D. B. BRAZELLE
was received as "regular and acting deacon." D* B. BRAZELLE (the name
has numerous spellings) became as prominent and active in Macedonia as
he had been in Sweetwater.
So perhaps it is natural to assume that Rev. Nelson PORTERFIELD
influenced many of these old friends and neighbors to accompany or
follow him to Arkansas and Texas. Such influence carried on into their
religious life as well. Nelson PORTERFIELD and Jesse WALDEN organized
Macedonia Baptist March 15» 1856* Nelson was the church's first pastor.
Older members of this thriving, modern-day church can relate
stories of Brother Nelse's association with Macedonia in the years prior
to his death in 1906. One former deacon stated that Brother Nelse, while
pastor at Macedonia, was also pastor of other Baptist churches in Cass
County and perhaps Arkansas. He would "take turns" preaching at these
various churches within horse-and-buggy distance of his farm home.
On March 29» 1856, he became pastor of Antioch Baptist Church
and served as pastor on at least two other occasions in later years. In
addition to Antioch, Macedonia and Salem churches, Brother Nelse pastored
Piney Grove Baptist Church, which he helped organize in 1887, and early
churches in Linden, Smyrna, Queen City, and probably others.
Certainly one of his favorite churches was Salem Baptist Church
near Bloomburg, organized on the second Sunday in September, 1862.
Brother Nelse was that church's third pastor, serving from 1870 to 1873*
His picture has a prominent place on a church wall at Salem, as it does
in Macedonia's entrance hall.
Again, some of the older members of present-day Salem can recall
their early childhood days of living near Salem church and seeing Brother
Nelse attend church on Sunday. Myrtle (SIMMONS) PORTERFIELD, widow of
Mortimer PORTERFIELD, once relate
wife died in 1889, would come to

It is recorded that Rev. Nelson PORTERFIELD,
years of Christian service in this area, assisted in organizing four
Associations, twenty-three churches; assisted in ordaining twenty-nine
deacons and eleven ministers. One writer' credits him with most of the
results that emanated from Salem and Enon Associations, and a great
portion of Soda Lake and Rehobeth Associations.
It is interesting to note that Rev, Nelson PORTERFIELD found time
away from a lifetime of tilling the soil and preaching the gospel to
become affiliated with Masonic Lodges in Georgia, Arkansas, and Texas.
My first Masonic research unveiled his affiliation with Springville Lodge
No. 153» Powder Springs (Cobb County) Ga, in 1855* prior to his migration
to East Texas. Unfortunately, no other information on that early
affiliation was obtainable from Springville Lodge records, or from Grand
Lodge of Ga. records in Macon, The Springville Lodge was chartered in
1851 but all of its early records were destroyed by fire when General
-88-
Sherman's forces swept through Cobb County on their way to the Battle of
Atlanta in 1864.
Masonic research in Texas, particularly records from the Grand
Lodge in Waco, revealed Brother PORTERFIELD’S affiliation with Glen Rose
Lodge No. 525 in Somervell County 1880 to 1882; and Queen City Lodge
No. 526 in 1887, 1890, and 1900.
Later research near Bloomburg by this writer (after learning that
Grand Lodge of Arkansas records were destroyed by fire in 1919) revealed
Nelson PORTERFIELD'S affiliation with Olive Branch Lodge No. 136, near
Bright Star, Ark.
Carl STUCKEY was kind enough to show me through that pretty little
lodge a couple of years ago. On the wall was a duplicate charter dated
November 7, I865. E. R. DODD was Worshipful Master; J. M. PATTERSON,
Senior Warden; and John M. STUCKEY was Junior Warden.
Also on the lodge wall was a charter dated November 13» 1868, from
Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Arkansas in Little Rock, authorizing the
petitioners to open and hold a chapter of Royal Arch Masons at Bright
Star. The following members of Olive Branch Lodge No. 136 who petitioned
for charter on November 1, 1868, were: M. T. EMBREE, S. W. MAYS, I. A.
MURPH, Philip S. LIVELY, M. PORTER, M. C. LIVELY, C. T. FIELDS, Nelson
PORTERFIELD, and E. R. DODD.
Tracing Nelson PORTERFIELD'S Masonic affiliations was not only a
pleasant side journey for this writer but also proved of considerable
benefit in locating his whereabouts in the 1880 census. He was in
Lafayette County, Ark., in i860; in Davis (Cass) County, Texas, in 1870;
but not found in either of those places in 1880 census records. Thus it
was the Masonic record of his affiliation with Glen Rose Lodge No. 525
'way out in Somervell County 1880 to 1882 that brought him to the surface
in a review of 1880 Somervell County, Texas, census. He and his wife
Neaty were listed as living in the household of Vandy (Thomas B. V.)
PORTERFIELD, Nelson's youngest son.
His membership in Queen City Lodge No. 526 in I887 and 1900
indicates he returned to Cass County to finish out his long and useful
life there.
We know, from a review of 1900 census records of Cass County,
that Brother Nelse was living in the.-household of John E. SPIVA, a
grandson residing in Prec. 4. Nelson’s birthdate in that record is
shown as July 1816, his age 83, birthplace as Georgia, and his father
and mother born in Virginia.
Rev. Nelson PORTERFIELD died February 4, 1906. In accordance with
his wishes he is buried in Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery, close to
the pretty, white church building which stands as a memorial to a dedi¬
cated, consecrated man of God who came from Georgia to bring the story
of the cross to the sparsely scattered settlers of Southwest Arkansas
and East Texas.
Buried next to him is his wife, Neaty Caroline (DICKSON) who died
January 26, I889. Nearby is his youngest son, Thomas Britton Vandergriff
PORTERFIELD, who died May 24, 1897. A large number of other PORTERFIELDS
and related descendants also lie at rest in Macedonia, just as they do
in the churchyard at Salem near Bloomburg.
The obituary of this venerable old pioneer Baptist preacher closes
with these lines; "Perhaps there never has lived in this section a man
who contributed more to the welfare of the people of the country than
Brother Nelson PORTERFIELD. He fought a good fight, finished his work,
and has gone to his crown."
(Mr. Williams states "I'm sure that many of the Sweetwater church members
lived in Carroll County, as did Rev. Porterfield, and the names would be
of benefit to readers doing Carroll research." Thanks, Mr. Williams!)

THE BURKE FAMILY
An Early Pioneer Family of Carroil County
by Juanita Dixon
Archibald T. Burke, a romantic adventurer, came to Carroll County,
often referred to as the 'Up Country,*, and set up law practice. Burke
had relatives who settled in Haralson and Carroll Counties. One brother,
Calaway Burke, lived and died near Hickory Level, Carroll County, Ga.
Carroll County lawyers listed in 1850 were: Walter Brook, R. L.
Richards, George W. Austin, Archibald T. Burke, Augustus H. H. Black,
lessee C. Worten, William W. and Henry F. Merrill, Isaac N. Buyers,
James Blalock, and David Bowling.
Archibald confirms his lav/ practice in a letter to his fiancee,
Eugenia DuBignon, dated January 30» 1853• "My time has been almost
constantly employed that we are getting a fruitful practice, etc. I
shall start on the circuit shortly."
He served in the House of Representatives in Georgia in 1861, 62,
and 63.
Carroll County in i860 lists Mr. Burke as a prosperous land owner
and slaveholder: 5 slaves, 100 improved acres, 200 unimproved acres,
4 bales of cotton, 76 livestock.
, The Methodist Church in Carrollton was where Archibald chose to
worship: "I went to church to hear what the parson had to say and I was
not much pleased with his sermon - we had a large congregation."
Illustrating the social life which centered around the church,
Archibald said: "There are about twenty worthy girls here in this
village that are anxious to marry." Miss Julia Curtis, one of these
young ladies referred to, went buggy riding with Archibald one Sunday
afternoon. '
Archibald had command of legal terminology as well as an extensive
romantic vocabulary. The latter is shown when he wrote his fiancee:
"It has been forty days since I parted with you when the tears of
love flowed freely from thine eyes. Oh, sweet drops of love how
I appreciate them from a heart so pure as thine. I felt those
briny tears tinkling down my cheeks that flowed from those lovely
eyes (that are.an index to so amicable an whole soul and spirit)
About 24 or five more days, My Dear and I will be on my way to
Jekyl. Oh, how I long to carress my little Doll and how often
I do think of the day when I will have that exquisite pleasure."
Eugenia M. DuBignon was the granddaughter of a Frenchman,
Christophe Poullian DuBignon. Christophe Poullian's son, Charles Henry
Poullian DuBignon had four sons and an equal number of daughters, one of
them being Eugenia.
Eugenia and Archibald were married April 12, 1853» hy Fr. J. J.
O'Neill, and the marriage is recorded in Parish Statistics of St. Francis
Xavier Catholic Church, Glynn County, Ga. The Marriage Contract is
recorded in Carroll County, Deed Book G., page 265. Included in the
contract were six negro slaves: Jerry, Cezar, Flore, Basset, Hannah, and
Judish.
The home where. Archibald and Eugenia lived was .located near the
present day Carrollton City Park. In the research notes of Miss Susan
Simonton Padgett the following is recorded:
"The Burke house was not unlike those of that period in the South;
two storied, four rooms below and two above; the two rear rooms on
the ground floor having a sloping roof. It was built on a long
ridge to the northwest of the town; it faced South with broad
verandas whose floors were supported by large columns. A wide

avenue extended from the residence to Alabama Street which leads

for its entire length. Back of the home lay a beautiful little
valley with a free flowing spring.”

Burke, Arch.(DuBignon)
In Eugenia's will a third child was mentioned.
Archibald T. Burke served as Captain of Company F, Seventh
Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, known as the most famous of the
Carroll County units. "Carroll County and Her People," by Pvt. Joe
Cobb, gives the following informations "A date, May 10, 1861. 1st
Manasses, Burke wounded, Discharged Dec. 21, 1861." Burke was carried
from the battlefield by Ahaz J. Boggess, who was from Carroll County
and served as Surveyor General of Georgia in 1859*
The family cemetery was located in the garden. Here Eugenia was
buried as well as the child, Archibald DuBignon. Other graves there were
thought to be those of slaves. In connection with this cemetery, an
article appeared in the Carrollton newspaper on July -8, 19?6, as follows!
"A casket estimated to be more than 125 years old and containing
the body of a male child was dug up at a site on Spring Street
where a new home is under construction. A Georgia Power crew was
digging a trench to lay underground cable to the home when
equipment struck the casket. The casket, measuring 43 inches in
length was made of cast iron and shaped similar.to a mummy*
A local funeral director said it was
used in-the 1850s. It had intricate
plate which could be lifted to view the face of a child. Beneath
the plate was a layer of glass * The body of the child was
amazingly preserved. Skin was still intact and hair parted on
the left side and combed over was still visible. Most estimates
placed the child's age at approximately five or six.” The casket
was taken to the Alms House ground for burial.
Rev. Eph Whistenhunt of Lincolnton, N. C., a relative of Burke,
read the newspaper article in the Haralson County paper. Rev. Whisenhunt's great-grandfather was Calaway Burke, Archibald's-older brother.
Rev. Whisenhunt corresponded with Mr. William J. Wiggins, Carrollton
City Attorney, and it was agreed the casket of the little boy should be
transferred to the Carrollton Catholic Church cemetery, Our Lady of
Perpetual Help, as he had been christened a Catholic, and his mother,
Eugenia, was the first Catholic in Carroll County.
After Eugenia’s death, the widow of Calaway Burke came to look
after the Burke household. Eugenia died of a cancer-like disease in
I863. Her internment was delayed until a priest could arrive from
Savannah. The funeral was conducted at night and she was the first
resident of the community to be accorded Catholic burial rites.
Eugenia Burke’s, will dated September 7, 1862, is recorded in^

This will was probated January, 1863, and recorded March 11, by
J. M. Blalock, O.C.C.
After the death of his wife, A. T. Burke returned to Pulaski
County, Ga., where he and some other-attorneys are listed as "older
lawyers" in the Georgia Bench and Bar. Vol 1, Page 228.
Capt. A. T. Burke married Mrs. E. W. Mosely Sept.' 20, 1865, in
Pulaski County. This is recorded on the First Book on the Reel of
Film. Pulaski Co. Court of Ordinary Marriages, 1856-1869, Page 176,
Ga. Archives Microfilm Library, Drawer 38, Box 2.
The Census of 1870 in Pulaski County shows

Between 1870 and 1880 Archibald Burke took his new family to
Texas, and they are listed in the Gregg County Census of 1880 as follows
Burke, A. T. w.m. 50 Lawyer b. Ga.

Mosely, Edgar w.m. 18 Stepson b. Ga.

The original property in Carrollton belonged to A. T. Burke and
afterwards became known as the Rodahan property. Today Dan Chance is.
the present owner of part of the property which is located at 214 Spring
Street, Land Lot 128, District 10. Mr. Chance purchased this property
from Dr. and Mrs. L. J. C. Williamson.
Rev. Whisenhunt reported Archibald suffered greatly from his leg
wounded at Manasses. He also said Burke was bad to drink and gamble.
As a result of his vices he lost his property in a card game to Mr.
Rodahan.
In Eugenia Burke’s will, Item #3> the property was left to her
children. The daughter, Eugenia (Mrs. Evans Terry, resident of Texas)
brought suit against Rodahan and the case was in court several years
but was settled about 1891. Mrs. Terry received two-thirds of the
property and Rodahan received one-third of the Burke property (Superior
Court M-T Bk., Carroll Co., 1889-91, pp. 178-9)* Evans and Eugenia
Terry sold land (1891), Deed Book W, p. 240.
This brings to an end the colorful events of the Burke family
covering a long span (1850 - 1970) which form a part of Carroll County’s
history.

Henry Pope, son of John and Susan Pope, was born November 25, 1810
He died in Carroll County, Georgia, and was buried in the family burying
ground, about four miles southwest of Villa Rica, on the Carrollton road.
In 1830 he was listed in the census returns of his father, John
Pope, DeKalb County, Georgia, as the male member between 15 and 20 years
of age. John H. Pope, the youngest son, was listed as between 10 and
John Pope himself being listed as between 50 and 60. The female
were; 5 to 10—1; 10 to 15--1* 50 tc| 60--1.
For the dates of the birth of John Pope’s children see page
of Georgia descendants of Nathaniel Pope, by John D. Humphries.
The census returns of Henry Pope, 1840, DeKalb.County, Georgia,
show: Males: Under 5—2; 5 to 10—2; 30 to 40—1. Females: 5 to 10—1;
20 to 30—1.
Between 1840 and 1850 Henry Pope removed from DeKalb to Carroll
County, Georgia. His census returns for 1850, Carroll County, show:
Age 40; born in North Carolina; Eliz%-,. 26; Wiley, 16; Micajah, 14j Thoma
12; John R., 10; Mary E., 8; William H., 6; James F., 4; Jasper N., 2.
The family Bible of William H. Pope, son of Henry Pope, in
-94-
possession of the latter’s son, Wiley 0. Pope, of Villa Rica, Georgia,
contains, also, the date of the "birth of Henry Pope.
Henry Pope married, first-, who died between 1840
and 1850. Their children were:
1. Eliza Pope, born about 1831. Her age appears as 26 in the
census returns of I850, but that is no doubt incorrect. In I830
Henry Pope was listed (not by name) in the census returns of John
Pope as a member of his household between 15 and 20 years of age.
The difference between her age and the ages of the other children,
as listed in the census returns of 1851 is noticeable, and is not
borne out by the Bible record, now in the possession of Wiley 0.
Pope, of Villa Rica, Georgia.
2. Wiley Pope, born March 25, 1833? died in the War Between the
States.
3. Micajah Pope, born January 1, I836; died in the War Between
the States.
4. Thomas Pope, born March 3, 1838; died in the War Between the

Carroll Free Press, Friday, November 26, 1897•
There is a strong probability that the Chattanooga, Rome and Southern
Railway will be extended from the southern terminus at Carrollton, Georgia,
to Columbus, Georgia, a distance of about eighty-one miles.
The road has just issued and sold $500*000 first mortgage bonds under
the reorganization and there will be another water issue to raise enough
money with which to extend the line on to Columbus and perhaps further
south.
(Note: What happened to this railroad?)
