- UGA School of Law leads state in bar exam passage rate State’s flagship law school continues tradition of preparing grads for legal careers Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia School of Law saw a high percentage of its graduates pass the July 2016 Georgia bar exam. The passage rate for first-time test takers from Georgia Law was 87.5 percent, 12.2 percentage points higher than the state average of 75.3 percent for ABA-approved law schools. For all Georgia Law graduates who took the July 2016 exam, 86.1 percent passed versus the state average of 71.1 percent. “Georgia Law is committed to providing our students with the knowledge and skills they need to be well-prepared once they graduate and begin their careers,” Georgia Law Dean Peter B. “Bo” Rutledge said. “These exam results show how our faculty’s dedication to first-rate legal training—combined with our students’ dedication to learning—are making us successful in this endeavor.” The bar exam is administered twice annually by the Supreme Court of Georgia Office of Bar Admissions, and passing it is required in order to receive a license for practicing law in the state of Georgia. ### Writer: Lona Panter, 706-542-5172, lonap@uga.edu Contact: Peter B. “Bo” Rutledge, 706-542-7140, borut@uga.edu This release is online at http://news.uga.edu/releases/article/law-bar-exam-passage-rate-16/.
