- In this series of WSB newsfilm clips from March 2, 1970, Fernbank Science Center astronomer Paul Knappenberger is discussing research that will be carried out during a solar eclipse in the Okefenokee Swamp on March 7, 1970. The clip is divided into two segments, part one and b-roll. Part one begins with Mr. Knappenberger discussing how the Fernbank Science Center will be sending a group of scientists from a variety of departments to the Okefenokee Swamp during a total solar eclipse. He also describes how college and high school students will be joining them. Mr. Knappenberger addresses how they will not only be making astronomical observations, but will also be observing the wildlife during the eclipse.
The second segment of the clip is b-roll, during which Mr. Knappenberger talks about how regular sunglasses and welders masks will not protect a person's eyes during an eclipse.
