- Description:
- Dr. Goddard: "Only when there are specific medical contraindications to the use of the birth control pills can there be danger associated with them. This is why it's important that a woman seek the advice of her physician and that he do a physical exam and take a history before deciding which method of contraception is best suited for her."
Reporter: "Doctor, just how effective are the majority of the birth control pills taken by six million American women?"
Dr. Goddard: "They're extremely effective. Their effectiveness rate is higher than any method of contraception known to man prior to this time."
The second segment of the clip is b-roll, which is a continuous clip of Dr. Goddard answering a question. It is transcribed in full below:
Dr. Goddard: "No, none that we can directly relate to birth control pills. If you mean by abnormalities, fetal abnormalities, however, there have been conditions--thromboembolic disease, for example, that has been associated and deaths from that have been associated with the taking of oral contraceptives. But there hasn't been any proof that the incidence of this disease or these diseases are greater in the women who take the pill than in those who do not."
