- In this series of WSB-TV newsfilm clips from August 16, 1960, Ambassador to the United Nations Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. proposes to the Soviet Union a reduction in the production of fissionable materials. He first proposes transferring accumulated fissionable materials in weapons to peaceful uses. As a first step, the U.S. and the Soviet Union would each set aside 30,000 kilograms of U235. A second proposal would be for both countries to halt the production of fissionable materials for weapons usage, to shut down one by one the plants producing uranium and plutonium.
