- Description:
- Series of WSB-TV newsfilm clips of the funeral service for Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, held May 27, 1959, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. The clips begin with an extreme long shot of the ceremony, showing troops in formation and onlookers. A closer shot shows troops lifting the casket, draped in an American flag, onto a horse-drawn caisson. Cuts to troops marching, then to horses, led by troops, pulling the caisson that carries the casket. Another long shot of the ceremony shows the procession moving to the grave site. Cuts to Chancellor of Germany Konrad Adenauer and U.K. Foreign Secretary Selwyn Lloyd walking side by side. Another long shot shows a group of people standing around a canopy at the grave site. Cuts to the Dulles family (widow Janet, son John Watson Foster, daughter Lillias Dulles Hinshaw, son Avery) seated with President Dwight D. Eisenhower and first lady Mamie Doud Eisenhower under the canopy. A cut shows that Vice President Richard M. Nixon and his wife, Pat, are seated next to Mrs. Eisenhower. Cuts to troops holding the American flag above the casket. Cuts back to the Dulles family. Cuts to onlookers standing. Cuts to the honor guard firing three rifle volleys, after which a bugler performs "Taps" as the camera zooms in and then pans right, past onlookers, to show again the troops holding the flag above the casket; the camera pans right again to show the Dulles family, Eisenhower, Mrs. Eisenhower, Nixon, and Mrs. Nixon standing in front of the canopy.
