- In this series of WSB-TV newsfilm clips from April 23, 1970 in Quincy, Massachusetts, the construction and launching of the U.S.S. Savannah (AOR-4) can be seen. The ship was built at the General Dynamics Quincy Shipbuilding Division. The first clip shows a close-up of the ship, and a male worker can be seen welding as others work on the ship. The next clip shows a close-up shot of a man welding the corner of the ship. In the next clip, two older unidentified white males are seen discussing blueprints. The next clip shows the front of the ship.
The next series of clips show a huge celebration of the launching of the ship. A large crowd of people can be seen celebrating while a military band plays. The next clip shows Frances Norman Shifley, wife of Vice Admiral R. L. Shifley, smashing a bottle of champagne against the ship just before it pulls away from the dock. The last clip shows the ship sliding down a ramp into the Weymouth Fore River as the crowd waves.
