- In this WSB-TV newsfilm clip from July 19, 1961, President John F. Kennedy warns the Soviet Union not to upset the current peace and freedom in West Berlin. The clip is the final section of Kennedy's reply to the Soviet Government's Aide Memoire of June 4, 1961. After explaining his notions of peace and freedom, Kennedy says that the United States will defend West Berlin's right to self-determination. Kennedy urges the Soviet Union to cease its attempt to annex West Berlin and to remember its "constructive cooperation" as U.S. allies during World War II.
