- Description:
- Series of WSB-TV newsfilm clips of NBC executive Robert W. Sarnoff and journalist John Daly testifying before the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C. The first four opening clips are silent. They show the hearing room looking toward Mr. Sarnoff from the officials' perspective; a close-up of Mr. Sarnoff; a shot of an unidentified man smoking; a shot from behind Mr. Sarnoff looking toward the committee members. Sound begins with a clip of Mr. Sarnoff from the side, which includes men taking notes. He is reading a statement regarding the Lar Daly decision, in which he compares what newspapers would have to do if they were compelled to apply the ruling for what broadcasters must do. He notes that the ruling destroys the spirit of the law as presented in section 315 of the Communications Act of 1934. The following four clips are silent. There is a close up of Mr. Sarnoff; a shot of the room with people taking notes; a shot of John Daly (wearing glasses) reading a statement; people around a table taking notes. Sound begins again with a series of clips that includes: a side shot of John Daly (wearing glasses) and some unidentified men in background; a side shot of two unidentified members of the committee seated at the front, with 3 men in the background; Mr. Daly (without glasses), while he is speaking a man in the background lights a cigarette; final shot of the room with people taking notes. Mr. Daly says he would be content with a reversal of the Lar Daly decision through legislation because it is critical to the appropriate functioning of the media.
