- In this series of WSB-TV newsfilm clips from September 26, 1962, United States Surgeon General Luther L. Terry recommends high-risk groups receive the flu vaccination.
The clips open on shot of Terry preparing to make a speech. The camera then cuts to a group press awaiting his comments. Next Terry provides guidance on the vaccine, transcribed in full below:
"In line with this belief, our advice" [clip is distorted] "...that persons who constitute high risks to influenza infections and to the side effects or the complications of influenza should particularly be vaccinated. These high risk groups consist of persons in the older age group, persons with chronic lung and heart disease, pregnant women. We think that it is especially important that these particular groups receive their influenza vaccination and that vaccination proceed at this time in order that one might get the most protection before the winter season and the peak outbreaks will occur."
