- In this series of WSB-TV newsfilm clips from between 1957 and 1961, Oregon congressman Charles Porter says that an all-out nuclear war would come more likely by accident rather than from an intentional nuclear attack by any nation. The first clip shows his office door with the sign "Charles O. Porter, Oregon." Reporters are shown in his office. He says the American people should be told that an unauthorized nuclear explosion is not only possible, but probable. He says his bill to stop nuclear testing of high yield nuclear weapons should be strongly considered, since the U.S. already has a strong deterrent and further testing may result in a catastrophic accident.
