- Description:
- Documentary video about Erskine Caldwell, written and presented by Terry Kay, produced by WPBA/30 Atlanta with support from the Georgia Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and Georgia Power. The video is interspersed with clips of Caldwell at a speaking engagement hosted by the DeKalb County Library System and clips of the 1958 film "God's Little Acre". The documentary is narrated by Kay, who interviews Caldwell about his novel The Sacrilege of Alan Kent. Caldwell discusses his influences, which were mainly real people whom he observed in the South, as his family moved frequently. He discusses his family, and writing as a youth, and traveling with his minister father, who made house calls to people. The visits exposed him to people in great distress. He discusses his popularity and criticism, as well as censorship of his work.
