Segment one: Nightly routine, 0:00. Title screen: "Maybelle 18 Months - Nightly Routine." Maybelle sits in a highchair drinking from a mug. She crosses her legs at the ankles. She eats food off of the tray on her wooden highchair. She brushes it off onto the floor. Maybelle puts water on her toothbrush and brushes her teeth a little bit. She puts it under the water many times. She is standing on a chair to reach the sink. Maybelle runs across the living room to the couch where a book is laying, which she opens immediately to read. She flips through the pages. She tries to close a toy Goofy in the book, but cannot. She blows kisses before going back to closing Goofy in the book. She tries to climb onto the couch with Goofy and succeeds to grab a book off the top. She sits on the couch next to her father, both holding up books they are reading. She climbs over to look at what he is reading, eventually ending up in his lap and holding the book herself. He reads Mother Goose with her. She crawls on the floor and picks up Goofy. Segment two: Daytime activities, 3:53. A girl sits on the ground in a yellow dress playing with a ring. Black slug. Someone holds a tin that she sticks her hand in. She eats the small white objects that she got out of it. Segment three: American Legion National Convention, 4:35. Title screen: "AMERICAN LEGIONAL NATIONAL CONVENTION MIAMI, FLORIDA OCTOBER 1948." An officer rides his horse in the street ahead of a marching band of officers. People stand on the sidewalks to watch. A group of sailors march down the street. Painted on a building: "MIAMI COLONIAL LOUNGE AND GRILL." People stand on a balcony above it. Various flags, including the American flag, are waving in the breeze. A float designed to look like a boat drives down the street ahead of a bus. Sign: "THE McALLISTER HOTEL." People sit outside at the hotel to watch. More cars follow them. Driving down an empty road through empty land. There is a canal on the side of the road. People walk by a train engine. A man and his wife climb onto it and wave. It is a car decorated as a train engine with official-looking information on it. Sign: "Lenox Hotel." Other couples climb on to enjoy it as well. A boat, "PINELLAS," sits in the water as a man on board walks around. The boat has some cars on the bottom and sets out from port. Segment four: Ruth's house, 10:01. Title screen: "AT RUTH'S HOUSE IN CORDELE NOVEMBER 11, 1948." A man retrieves a football from the street and kicks it. Two young girls and a boy play outside with a group of adults watching them. Some of them are punting and kicking the football. The younger children ride on bicycles and run on the sidewalk as the older ones play football. A toddler climbs stairs under close supervision. They walk around the yard. A woman carefully watches everyone. A woman follows her toddler and grabs her hand. The toddler hides in the shade of the house. A group of mostly women sit on the porch to chat. Inside, the little girl tries to move a rocking chair around. She climbs on it to try to retrieve her book off the top of a cabinet. She reaches into a crib and pulls her blanket out. She climbs onto a cushion, then onto the bed where she pulls the covers down.
