- Description:
- Black slug. Segment one: Saint Lawrence Seaway and New York Canals, 0:05. A canal has many towers lining it. The boat the camera is on approaches the lock of the canal. A man up top throws rope down to the boat. A large ship is on the water. They float toward the lock of the canal again. The boat is attached to rope up top. The water in the lock fills until it is the right height. The doors open and they are free to go. There are many seagulls flying around. On a building: "BERTRAND H. SNELL LOCK." The lock is open and the camera is on a boat in it again. Water slowly fills up to the height of the other side of the canal. On a building: "MASSENA, NEW YORK, USA." The doors open and some water comes rushing in. A seagull flies over head. On a building: DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER LOCK." A large house painted a dark color blends in to the trees on the hill around it above the water. There is a white bridge connecting the house's land to other land. Stones create a wall and holds for statues along the water. A house as big as a castle is across the water from the boat. The top of a turret can be seen above the trees. An archway made of stone connects two sections of the wall and allows for a small channel of water off the main body. A tower of stone that is asymmetrical towers over a house. A large house with a white bridge connecting it to another piece of land. The white bridge has a Canadian flag on one side and an American flag on the other. A house stands on stones over the water. Houses can be seen in the distance across the water. Ruins of a house stand on a small strip of land in the water. Water flows over an edge. The boat floats through another lock. Next to it is the waterfall. Something splashes in the water. Water flows roughly near the canal. The boat enters another lock. A man sitting on the boat is reading Stars in the Water. The water is green and flowing quickly around the boat. It flows over the edge outside the lock in a waterfall. There are rocks causing the water to flow from high to low. A bridge crosses the water, and the boat goes under. Down the river. There is a field with small trees in it on one side of the river. Other boats and barges are on the river with them. Some heavy machines are working on a bridge on the side of the river. Cows eat grass on a small platform and follow the boat until it has passed. There are many large trees growing out to the water's edge. They are green and bushy. People relax on the boat and read as they float along. They arrive at another lock. A man with a blue denim patterned hat talks to the camera. He talks to another man on the boat. There is a tugboat in the distance. Three obscure one side of the river from the other. A long bridge for a train is on the far side. It is likely not in use because the bridge ends halfway over the water. The banks of the river area are full of trees. A bridge over the top of a dam and lock system. The camera films both sides. There are cliffs leading to the riverbank. A tugboat pushes a barge. Another dam and lock system. An "EXCELSIOR" flag flies. The boat floats toward a wall that lifts up in the lock. There are houses and buildings dotting the hills. They get closer to another lock. The doors open for them to enter it. There is another side to this lock. A light shines red telling them not to go. The doors slowly open and they go out to water at the lower height. Another lock waits not too far away. Sitting in another lock, there is a waterfall flowing into the river. The boat sits in another lock. The lock opens and they are off again to another lock. Sign: "WARNING LOOK OUT FOR DAM AT TROY LOCK-IS-ON-EAST LEFT SIDE OF RIVER." A tall building with a clock tower towers over the trees on the bank. Sign: "ERIE CANAL SYRACUSE AND BUFFALO CHAMPLAIN CANAL WHITEHALL AND LAKE CHAMPLAIN SPEED LIMIT 10 M P H." People stand on the side of the boat to read the sign and look out over the water. A bridge crosses the river. The boat approaches a lock. Sign: "TROY LOCK AND DAM HUDSON RIVER CONSTRUCTED AND OPERATED BY CORPS OF ENGINEERS U. S. ARMY." In another lock. The doors open. An orange flag with a castle on it waves on a flagpole. The boat leaves the lock. Land has hollowed out leaving intricate root systems to hold up trees over the river. Open water ahead down the river as it grows dark. There is a factory on the side of the river. A large house sits isolated on a hill over the water. A lighthouse sits on an island at the mouth of a fork leading to a town. A large house like a castle sits on the top of a hill overlooking the river. There are mountains in the distance. Some large houses and towers sit on the hillside. Another boat with an American flag sails in the opposite direction. Another large building. Black slug.
