 - Description:
 - Furniture Liquidators, in the former LaGrange Banking Company building, burned May 8, 1984. The building is remembered for the large inflatable sofa attached to the roof. Flames, estimated at reaching a height of 250 feet, shot into the air illuminating the square and visible from I-85, destroyed the building, leaving ony smoldering ruins. The LaGrange Fire Department dumped an estimated 4,200 gallons of water per minute, using an estimated 1.5 million gallons total to control it. Investigators were never able to pinpoint the cause of the fire.
