- Richard Callaway was born on June 14, 1717, to Joseph Callaway, Sr., (1680-1732) and Catherine Anne Browning Callaway (1680-1735) in Essex, Virginia. He wasa sergeant, lieutenant and major of forces active in the French and Indian Wars. He was appointed one of the trustees of New London and patented lands in Bedford during the period 1762-70. His nephew, Flanders Callaway, later married Jemima Boone (the daughter of Daniel Boone). Callaway County, Kentucky is named for him.
