- Father of Will S. Cox. Enlisted as Pvt., Co. D - Polk Rifles - Phillips Legion, CSA on 3/1/1862. Veteran of 2nd Manassas, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and a dozen more engagements. Right arm - amputated below elbow). Captured at Knoxville 11/29/1863, sent to Fort Delaware 3/4/1864. Exchanged, 9/18/1864 and Furloughed, 9/26/1864. L.S. Cox remained around Troup County, employing himself as a grocer, until relocating to Marietta, Georgia in the 1890's, where he ran a small confectionery store in his last days there.
