- Description:
- Calumet Mill Village was on the east side of downtown, around what was originally known as the LaGrange Cotton Mills. Founded in 1889, it was the first cotton and textile mill of its kind in Troup County. By the 1890's, it produced enough electricity to light parts of LaGrange. The mill went thru several names and leadership before it was purchased in 1928 by Cason Callaway and became Calumet Mill. It closed in 1982 and was razed. St. Peter’s Catholic Church now stands on the site.
