- Mr. Cleaveland (1898 - 1999) was the founder and operator of Cleaveland-Dodd Co. for 75 years on East LaFayette Square in LaGrange. He was active in civic affairs of LaGrange and served for 36 years on the City of LaGrange Board of Education, including two terms as chairman. Mr. Cleaveland also served for 40 years as a board member of the Ogletree Street Foundation, which oversaw the operations of the Ogletree Street Recreation Center, now the William Griggs Recreation Center. He also co-founded the Boy Scout Troop of First United Methodist Church and served as its first Scout Master. For his outstanding record of service to First United Methodist Church, he was voted a Trustee Emeritus (lifetime honorary member) of the Administrative Board. Mr. Cleaveland was also a member of the Masons and the LaGrange Rotary Club for more than 50 years.
