- The collection consists of twenty-seven (27) original letters written to his wife from 1944-1945. The earliest letters contain information about life at Camp Wallace, Texas, and Camp Elliott, San Diego, California. The bulk of the letters were written aboard the U.S.S. St. George. In these letters, Mr. Woody shares details about life aboard ship, his shipmates and his thoughts on the war. He inquires about his wife, children and family and seeks knowledge of the home front.
