- Description:
- Silent, color moving image footage from Thomasville, Georgia showing different young women participating in a beauty pageant. This is followed by footage of a parade. A banner hung across the street where the parade takes place reads: "Rose Festival Friday Apr. 27." Several groups of acrobats, street performers, and clowns entertain the parade crowd. The parade includes a marching band, and automobiles with dignitaries, one of whom is Miss America 1964 Donna Axum, who wears a crown, and holds a giant gold key. She speaks to the audience. A local pageant queen is driven up and is crowned by Miss America. The parade continues, with assorted automobiles, floats, and marching bands. In a separate location, Miss America and the local pageant queen attend a special event. This is followed by footage of Miss America being given the key to the city, and then sitting in a limousine waving to the parade audience. This is followed by shots of parade floats, of different beauty pageant queens and their courts, and marching bands. This is followed by a shot of several table prize settings, and an exhibit from the Thomasville City Schools. There are numerous arrangements of roses placed on a display table that the camera pans across. Some of the roses have different names, such as "Snowbird," "Charlotte Armstrong," "Roses of the Future," and "Golden Slippers." There are several more shots of nicely set dining tables, arrangements of roses, a Kiwanis rose display, and a Rotary Club exhibit. This is followed by a shot of a rose test garden at Thomasville Nurseries, Inc., and several close-up shots of single roses.
