Anna Bell Washington, known as Ana Bel Lee, was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. After working for thirty-eight years in social work management, Lee retired and moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia. She then began to paint as a hobby, creating works that illustrated a history of the island and its inhabitants.
