- Description:
- Pictorial quilt by Wini McQueen.
McQueen decorates the surface of fabrics with paint, dyes, and transferred photographic images, and then transforms the fabrics into elaborate story quilts. She is a native of New Jersey who makes her home in Macon, Georgia. Her work reflects her interest in social issues as well as her travels to Côte d'Ivoire in West Africa. This work was commissioned by the Tubman Museum. It is an homage to the generations of unnamed and unrecognized African American women whose work and sacrifices sustained the African American community in Macon, Georgia.
