The Mighty Tigers of SSC took on Miles College in an exciting Homecoming match-up before
over 8,000 fans in Tiger stadium. The Homecoming victory, to the tune of 50-13, was just
what the Tigers needed to cap off an exhilarating season and happy homecoming celebra-
tion.
Featured at this year's homecoming was a memorial football seal dedicated to five deceased
former loyal Tiger fans who had given unselfishly to Savannah State College for well over two
decades. Included among these honorees were: Dr. William E. Gardner, Jr.. Mr. Homer Lewis,
Professor Norman B. Elmore, Coach Joseph Turner, and Curtburt Burton.

On January 6, 1 908, a group of young women at Howard

The first Black Greek letter Organization, founded in
America, Alpha Phi Alpha, was conceived during a
time when Blacks were being disenfranchised and
lynching was widespread, by Henry Collis, Charles
Chapman, Eugene Knickle, George Kelly, Robert
Ogle, and Vertner Tandy. These men are referred to
as the "Jewels" because they banned together be-
cause of the social and racial limitations placed on
them. December 4, 1906, in New York at Cornell
University is the birthplace and date of the world's
pioneer Black Greek organization.
Delta Eta Chapter was founded at Savannah State

In 1913 at Howard University, twenty-two strong willed young black
women envisioned and founded an organization pledged to serious
endeavors, scholarship and public service to mankind. On these principles,
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded. Today, it stands
strong, with a membership fast approaching 200,000 members as a
beacon of hope and light striving to uphold the image of love and public
service.
At SSC, the women of Delta Mu Chapter have continued in the footsteps of
their illustrious founders by spearheading community service projects
which have benefitted the Savannah Community and the college communi-
ty. The chapter sponsors annual baby showers for unwed mothers, blood
drives, clothing and canned food drives, reader registrations and a Delta
Against Drunk Driving Day. They continuously seek to add new projects
that will uplift their fellow man.

EDITOR'S MESSAGE
I s I reflect on the past year, I have realized that
M^f producing a yearbook requires a lot of time,
j&M talent and effort. I also know that a task of
$m " this magnitude could not be done alone.
W w Therefore, I would like to personally extend
my thanks to the people who have contrib-
uted to the successful completion of this yearbook, the
1992 edition of the TIGER. First, I would like to thank God
for giving me the strength to take on such an awesome
task, the patience to persist until it was completed, and the
courage to do it all again next year.
Second, I would like to thank Ms. Juanita Adams for her
guidance and patience. The staff in the Office of Develop-
ment, Mrs. Rose Washington, Mrs. Edna Jackson, Ms.
Bonnie Howard and Ms. Naomi Calhoun all provided
invaluable typing and layout assistance. My thanks also go
to Gary Oliver for assistance in key instances.
A special word of thanks to our campus photographer,
Mr. Leonard Jones, who shot almost all of the photographs
in this edition.
I encourage more of our students to become involved in
the publication of this Yearbook. We need you on our staff
and urge you to join us.
To the SSC family, I would like to say that I hope that the
1991-92 Tiger has captured your true essence and that it
represents you well.
Sincerely,
Sametria McFall
