PROLOGUE . .

With each new academic year comes the task of
capturing and recording the events that take place at
Savannah State College. It is the duty of the Tiger Staff

to see that this is done.

In the following pages, via photography and copy,
we give our offering for the 1966-67 academic year.
If you catch a glimpse of yourself that will make you
stop and reminisce, we will consider our job well done.

DEDICATION

Mr. Wilbur C. McAfee

After viewing the roster of educators and
other academic workers on our campus, the
thoughts and ideas of the 1967 Tiger Staff as-
similated to one point. The TIGER Staff syn-
thesized its thoughts and ideas and focused
on an individual who was educated in the public
schools of Illinois, received the Bachelor of
Education degree from the University of South-
ern Illinois, the Master of Arts degree from the
University of Illinois and who has done further
study at Northwestern University, Evanston,
Illinois and the University of Illinois. He is
presently an associate professor of Social
Science and the Director of the Upward Bound
Project at Savannah State College.

With great pride and humility we dedicate the
1967 Tiger to a most profound leader, authentic
educator, and inspiring person, Mr. Wilber C.
McAfee.

Savannah is one of the most beautiful historic cities in the
Southeast. It is captured above to be recorded as it appeared
the split-second that it was photographed. The city is known for
its many memorials of the past.

Unlike the "historic city"; SAVANNAH STATE COLLEGE
thrives on current activity. The following pages captivate this
current activity of "S.S.C." in the focus of the "SPOTLIGHT
'67".

"When you have to make a choice", said William James, "and
don't make it, that, in it self is a choice". No one can avo.d
decision-making and there are few times in life that choices
have more influence on our futures than those made by our College
Administrators.

OUR PRESIDENT

MESSAGE

I would like to take this opportunity to express my
sincere congratulations to the staff and advisors of the
1967 edition of the "Tiger" for a job well done.

This school year — 1966-67 — will go down in history
as one of the most momentous years in the history of
Savannah State College. Our present enrollment in-
creased to over 1600 students, and our faculty has been
enlarged and greatly up-graded. Our building program,
when completed, will enable us to provide a well-
rounded program for our student body and the com-
munity.

To those of you who are leaving us this year, we send
our best wishes. All of you will recall, in some instances
with pleasure, and in other instances with some an-
guish, vour classes in foreign languages, mathematics,
physical education, education, English, business, home
economics and technical sciences, and social sciences.
You will also reflect upon the lvceum features, the ex-
cellent renditions of the Choral Society, the Band and
the Men's Glee Club, the assembly programs and fine
dramatic presentations, periods in the swimming pool
and dances, and Homecoming of 1966. These and
manv more memories will return to you in the years
following your graduation. The "Tiger" will increase

in value to you over the years, since it will help you to reminisce over your glowing

college experiences.

We extend congratulations to the seniors who will become our alumni, and we wish

for vou God's richest blessings as you go to vour several endeavors.

Many times a yearbook staff hates to see 5 '* »

the school year end. I do not think that . * v ,

this is true of the present one. This essay
is usually devoted to thanking and praising
the staff so I will make an effort to do so.

, To the Staff, I express my deepest ap-
preciation. I realize that there were other
ways you could have found to spend your
valuable time. Even in the threatening
shadow of an impending deadline the edit-
ing of the '67 TIGER remained a cherished
experience because of the people with
whom it was done. My sincere thanks goes to our photographers, Robert
Mobley and Hubert Harmon. The very best of yearbook staffs would
have a difficult time producing a good yearbook without any pictures.

To the students we offer the '67 TIGER as a record of memories for
you to cherish after leaving S.S.C. this year. For your help, thank you!

The "Spotlight '67" begins to grow dim and we turn our backs on
another school year. It is hoped that you caught a glimpse of yourself
somewhere hidden in the past 215 pages that made you stop to remi-
nisce. If so, we consider our job well done.
