- Saint Paul's Church, Augusta, Georgia, Minutes of the Vestry of Saint Paul's Church, June 16, 1855 - April 5, 1923. A 13 7/8 in X 8 1/2 in X 3 in volume with suede leather cover, heavily worn, 485 pages. Contents: The spine has a panel stamped St. Paul's Church, Augusta. Contents are mostly handwritten with glued-in interpolations. On the front inside cover are pasted two newspaper clippings: The first, from an unidentified source records a tribute to Mr. Gerald McLaughin with a resolution of sympathy to his family. The second from the Augusta Herald newspaper for Friday, January 29, 1819, reports the laying of the cornerstone of Saint Paul's Church with a Masonic ceremony. It also lists the names of the architect and the members of the building committee. Paper clipped to the inner end page is a white label taped to brown paper with the following typed words: St. Paul's Vestry Notes, June 16, 1855 - April 5, 1923. On the verso across from the recto numbered page 1 is attached a typescript on onion skin titled as follows: Journal of the Proceedings of the Fourth Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the State of Georgia held in the Parish of Christ Church, Macon, on the 24th and 25th of April, 1826. Following this title is a brief history of Saint Paul's Church from the year 1764 to the year 1819 that recounts the building of a new church in 1819. The Vestry Minutes are numbered from page 1 to page 485. Each set of minutes gives the date, the names of those present, the topics under discussion, resolutions presented and voted on (if any) and each set of minutes is signed by the Secretary of the Vestry, the Rector, or another designated agent. Topics covered include the calling and compensation of priests, rates for pew rents, various fundraising efforts, the hiring and evaluation of church musicians and funding of church music programs, the hiring and compensation for sextons and other workmen, the cost of building materials and insurance, reports of the sickness and death of parishioners with accompanying resolutions, and arrangements for funerals and other church services.
