ST. PAUL'S CHURCH. The site of the Fort is marked by a Celtic Cross erected by the Society of Colonial Dames. The Log Church erected in 1750 was destroyed during the Revolution. In 1786 a frame building was erected which was removed in 1819 to give place to the brick Colonial Church. Tins was destroyed by fire together with a new Parish House in 1916. Since that time the present Church and Parish House have been built, the exterior of the Church l)cing almost a fac-simile of the one destroyed. The Convention of 1823 was held in this Church.

In 1730 General Oglethorpe began to Imild the town and Frt of Fredericka on St. Sinmn's Island as a protection against tlie Spaniards. He was accompanied by liis Secretary and Chaplain, the Itev. Charles Wesley, who for a short time gave the services of the Cliurch to the people.
From that time on until the Itevolution the Church was supplied with Missionaries by the Society fc*r the Propagation of tlie Gospel. Among them John Wesley and (ieorge Whitfield came over from Savannah to <fficiute.

Further details of the history of these three Churches and of the Diocese will be found in a pamplilet entitled "How the Churcli ('ame to Georgia," by Rev. .las. B, Lawrence, Secretary of the Dim'ese.
