- Letter respsonding to Charlie Hale Mobley, dating from February 20, 1882 from Robert Gilderoy Porter of Verona, Mississippi, identifies Porter as the editor of Southern Youth. The letter begins with the salutation "My Dear Little Friend," and reads in part, "Your letter and the money came to hand in good time. If they can find room your name will go on the quilt, and if not it will be enlisted upon the record of the Juvenile Missionary Society," etc. Rev. Robert Gilderoy Porter, was a Methodist minister and a former Confederate chaplain, born on Feb. 15, 1839 in Sumter County, Alabama.
