- Description:
- In 1922 Margaret Mitchell (sixth from left) married Berrien Kinnard Upshaw (center). Upshaw left after four months, and the couple's marriage was annulled two years later. John Marsh (second from left), whom Mitchell married in 1925, was Upshaw's best man. Mitchell's epic Civil War love story was published in June 1936. Mitchell was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for the novel in May 1937.
