Gingrich served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999, a position he achieved largely through his "Contract with America," a ten-point program of conservative reform that, along with frustration over U.S. president Bill Clinton's administration, led to a historic shift in congressional power, with Republicans winning a majority of both houses for the first time in forty years. - Metadata URL:
