- Alfred H. Colquitt, a veteran officer of the Civil War, was a native of Walton County. Before the war, Colquitt served in the U.S. Congress, and in 1876 he was elected governor of Georgia. In 1883 he returned to Congress as a senator.
Photograph of Alfred H. Colquitt, an active secessionist and brigade commander in the Civil War (1861-65). The drawing is from a Richmond newspaper in 1863. Colquitt was a prominent political leader in his home state until his death. During his long career, the veteran officer was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, as well as the governor of Georgia. - Metadata URL:
