Image of a Bible quilt created by Harriet Powers, one of the best-known southern African American quilt makers. Powers, who lived over half of her life in Clarke County, Georgia, finished her Bible Quilt around 1886 in Athens, Georgia. The quilt includes stylized representations of various Biblical figures and animals. The materials used to make the quilt are gray, ecru, orange, red, brown, and black. The third panel in the second row depicts the story of Jacob's dream, when "he lay on the ground."
