This photograph shows an image from a dance performance during the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. A circle of tall translucent material is supported by metal columns. The gauzy circle features silhouettes of athletes such as dancers, discus throwers, and gymnasts. Light radiates from within the circle. Dancers, congregated around the bases of the columns, perform on the outside of the circle. Dressed in white, they appear very small against the high walls of the circle.
