Photograph of the residence of George Ferguson Armstrong, a Savannah, Georgia shipping executive. Armstrong Atlantic State University originally occupied this structure. This expansive granite and glazed-brick mansion exemplifies Italian renaissance architectural style. It was designed by architect Henrik Wallin and built between 1916 and 1919.
At the request of Savannah mayor Thomas Gamble, Armstrong's widow and daughter donated their home, located on the southern edge of Savannah's historic district, to the city to house the new school. Since its founding in 1935, Armstrong Atlantic State University has evolved from a junior college supported by the city of Savannah into a four-year unit of the University System of Georgia. - Metadata URL:
