This lithograph depicts the Battle of Atlanta and the death of Union general James McPherson. The Union soldiers are on the right, and the Confederate soldiers appear on the left. An American flag flies above the Union soldiers. Many of the Union soldiers are depicted as dead or wounded. A Confederate flag flies high on a hill in the background.
