- Description:
- The Knights of Labor played a pioneering role in organizing American and especially southern laborers. In Georgia the Knights gave workers an outlet for protest against low wages and harsh working conditions in relatively new industries, as well as the means to challenge Democratic dominance of local politics.
Image of an illustration depicting a meeting of the Knights of Labor. Three men in suits stand or sit on a raised platform. A pitcher and two cups sit on a table on the platform. They appear to address the members of the crowd below, all of whom have their arms outstretched. They are dressed in work clothing. The largest labor organization in late-nineteenth-century America, the Knights of Labor played a pioneering role in organizing American and especially southern laborers. In Georgia the Knights gave workers an outlet for protest against low wages and harsh working conditions in relatively new industries. - Metadata URL:
