- Mormon missionaries Rudger Clawson (left) and Joseph Standing are pictured in 1878. In 1879 Standing was killed by a mob in Whitfield County as he and Clawson were traveling to a church conference in Chattooga County.

Standing and Clawson were sent as Mormon missionaries to Georgia in 1878. In 1879 Standing was killed by a mob in Whitfield County as he and Clawson were traveling to a church conference in Chattooga County. A memorial park at the murder site was dedicated to Standing in 1952. - Metadata URL:
