Description:: Painter H. A. Ogden depicts James Longstreet leading his troops in Longstreet at Gettysburg (circa 1900). Longstreet, a Confederate general, disagreed with the tactics of his superior, Robert E. Lee, and was later blamed for the Confederacy's loss of the battle.
This image of a painting entitled Longstreet at Gettysburg (circa 1900) depicts James Longstreet leading his troops. He is shown on horseback. Several soldiers stand near him. Bomb blasts rise in the air behind him, and a mountain stands in the background. A veteran of the Mexican War (1846-48) and a Republican politician, Longstreet was one of the most prominent and controversial figures of the Civil War (1861-65).
