Founded in the 1940s as the Dwarf Grill by Truett Cathy in the Atlanta suburb of Hapeville, Chick-fil-A has grown to include more than 1,200 restaurants in 38 states and the District of Columbia, with annual sales of $1.74 billion in 2004. Chick-fil-A employs approximately 46,500 people. The company, which specializes in the "original" boneless chicken breast sandwich, is one of the largest privately held restaurant chains in the United States and is the nation's second-largest fast-food chicken restaurant.
