- Sworn oath by Milton Frohock of loyalty to the United States upon his appointment as Tax Receiver of Glynn County. The oath states that Frohock had never given "aid, countenance, counsel or encouragement" to people engaged in armed hostilities with the United States. In July 1862, Congress passed an "Ironclad Test Oath" for civil servants requiring not only a pledge of future loyalty, but also an affirmation of past fidelity. In 1864, the Republican-controlled Senate, over the strenuous objection of the chamber's few Democrats, adopted a rule requiring members to swear to the 1862 Test Oath and, for the first time, to sign a printed copy. The oath is signed and sealed by W. Barkuloo, Notary Republic. Three two cent stamps are affixed to the document. 2 images.
