Dedication

Dr. Joan Gordon, a professor emerita of the Department of Social and Behavioral
Sciences, taught at Savannah State College for 42 years. She joined the SSC family
during the Summer of 1928, and was diligent, well-trained professor up until her
retirement in 1971. Dr. Gordon's tenure touched the lives of hundreds of graduates
who still fondly look her up whenever they're in the city or visiting the campus. A
graduate of Jackson State University, the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia
University, Dr. Gordon spends a good deal of volunteer time on the campus where
she actively supports the efforts of building the Savannah State College archival
collection. The Tiger Yearbook Staff of 1993 salutes this great Legend in the history
of our beloved ALMA MATER.

Someone once said, "College days are the
best days of one's life. At Savannah State Col-
lege, that statement is more often true than
not. Friendships are made, lives are enriched,
learning is the order the day, and lifelong re-
lationships are cemented.

For many students, college is that unfor-
gettable milestone in life from which all else
springs. Careers are born, intellects are nour-
ished, and ideas and values are allowed to grow
and develop.

When one takes into account all that he has
managed to pack into four or five short years,
it is no wonder that expression reverberates
even louder . . . "College days are the best
days".

Homecoming 1992

Homecoming 1992 was a success with two weeks of fun-filled activities
that kept everyone busy. The activities included were a pep rally, a Greek
step show, a funeral for the Morehouse mascot, Coronation, the parade,
and of course the game. The theme for these Homecoming festivities was
titled "Unity, Scholarship, and Excellence."

IN

LOVING

MEMORY OF

CHERYL LOT

Should You Go First

Should you go first and I remain

To walk the road alone,

I'll live in memory's garden, dear.

With happy days we've known.

In Spring I'll wait for roses red,

When fades the lilac blue,

In early Fall, when brown leaves call

I'll catch a glimpse of you.

Should you go first and I remain

For battles to be fought,

Each thing you've touched along the way

Will be a hallowed spot.

I'll hear your voice, I'll see your smile

Though blindly I may grope,

The memory of your helping hand

Will buoy on with hope . . .

Should you go first and I remain

One thing I'd have you do

Walk slowly down that long, lone path

For soon I'll follow you.

I'll want to know each step you take

That I may walk the same,

For some day down that lonely road

You'll hear me call your name.

Whew-w-w!!!

That's finally over. No one really knows what a tremendous task it is putting a yearbook
together from start to finish. No one that is but the person who ends up doing the task,
virtually all alone.

As I reflect on the beginnings of the 1992-93 Tiger Yearbook, I remember the feelings of
"Do you really want to do this again?" After all, it was yours truly who had to almost single-
handedly complete the Yearbook from the previous year. But, this was my SENIOR YEAR,
and I would not let dear ole SSC down. So I buckled down with a small, but not so dedicated
staff and the tackled the job ahead.

Things were going pretty good until we got to the Winter quarter, and my overload and work
schedule got the best of me. I managed to get through two-thirds of the publication, and thanks
to Mrs. Adams in the Public Relations office, the other third was completed finally.

My parting words are to each of you the students still enrolled at SSC. Get involved with
the Yearbook staff. It's your recorded reflections of some very precious college days. They belong
to you and so does this Tiger yearbook.

Sincerely,

Sametria McFall
Editor
