- Description:
- Palmour Hardware. Photograph of of Palmour Hardware Company. It was one of Gainesville's largest and most widely patronized business concerns, and one of the largest wholesale and retail hardware institutions in North Georgia. The company dates to ca. 1887, when it was known as S.C. Dinkins & Co., and took the name Palmour Hardware in November 1900. It was first located on the West side of the public square and then was housed in a building on South Main just below the Dixie-Hunt Hotel. The building survived the 1936 tornado. Hayne Palmour became manager in 1902, and Dan Palmour was the traveling salesman.
